What is Pediatric Occupational Therapy? (OT)

As a pediatric occupational therapists, we help children do the everyday activities that support learning, play, and development. While physical therapy often focuses on gross motor skills like crawling or walking, occupational therapy (OT) zooms in on fine motor skills, self-care, and how children interact with their environment.

Pediatric OT is all about helping children participate in daily life. That could mean learning how to hold a bottle or spoon, manage transitions between activities, regulate emotions, or tolerate sensory input like different textures, sounds, or lights. In the first years of life, these foundations set the stage for long-term success.

Some areas OT supports include:

  • Grasping and using hands to play or eat

  • Sensory sensitivities to textures or sounds

  • Sleep routines, self-regulation, and transitions

  • Dressing, feeding, and grooming tasks (even for little ones!)

If your baby avoids tummy time, struggles with hand use, becomes overwhelmed by lights and noise, or shows delays in play or daily routines, pediatric OT may help. Our sessions are always play-based, individualized, and rooted in connection. We focus on meeting your child where they are—and helping them grow from there. Want to connect?
